It is about this time every year when 95% of all New Year’s Resolutions go to that resolution cloud in the sky, having been forgotten, given up on, or just plain stopped. All the gyms begin to thin out a little bit more, and the quantities of Twinkies and ice cream at the supermarket are a little lower than they have been the past couple weeks.
Now, why is that?
Let’s face it. Change is hard. In fact, REAL change, is real hard. Tony Robbins always says, “You get what you tolerate.”
But the secret to getting the change you want to stick, is this; Ask yourself, “What is the smallest positive step I can make toward my goal, right now?” And then do it.
I know. I think it sounds completely too simple to actually work too. However, my experience personally, as well as with the high performing sales professionals that I coach, say that taking immediate action right now is the best thing you can do.
Not big. Not sweeping change. Not blowing up everything.
The best thing you can do is to DO SOMETHING toward your goal – right now.
So, let me ask you. Do you have specific goals written out? Do you have a sales target that you are mentally committed to? What are you doing today that is dramatically different than what you did last year?
Here is what I suggest you do as your One Small Action today:
- Write down your sales goal for the year at the top of the page.
- Next, write down the average revenue amount of your top 10 accounts.
- Then, ask yourself, “How many emails, calls, and meetings did it take to land ONE of my top 10 accounts?”
- How many prospects are you talking to that are equal in revenue to the average account from #2 above?
- Finally, look at your email and appointment calendar and count the number of closing conversations you have in the books as of today.
This may sound a bit harsh, but honestly, by taking action of the quick 5 steps above, you will get a pretty clear picture if you are actually meeting your goal or if you are like thousands of others who are merely “thinking” about their goal.
Taking action today is the only way to hit your goal and beyond in 2016.
How do I know? Because every one of the professionals in my coaching program blew away their sales goals in 2014 and in 2015 based upon the numbers turned in thus far.
