When AI Moves From Your Phone to Your Business
In January, a friend of mine attended CES—the world's most influential technology trade show that showcases the latest innovation across many industries such as AI, robotics, electric vehicles and more.
When I asked her what stood out this year, her answer revealed something bigger than any single product. It was a glimpse into the convergence of technologies that will reshape the way we live and work. The biggest and most prominent of them right now – AI.
AI is no longer just something we open on our phones to ask questions. It’s moving closer to our bodies through wearables—and deeper into our businesses through systems that don’t just assist, but operate.
From devices that monitor our stress, decisions, and habits in real time, to emerging platforms that can function as fully autonomous digital workers, the shift is clear:
AI is evolving from a tool we use into a workforce that acts on our behalf.
And that raises a much bigger question than what technology can do.
It forces us to ask what happens to self-awareness, leadership, and human connection when machines are no longer just supporting the work—but doing it.
AI That Lives With You
The real headline at CES wasn’t the big flashy tech like robots—it was wearable AI.
Think Apple Watch or Whoop, but more conversational. More aware. More integrated.
These devices don’t just track steps or heart rate. They listen, log, analyze, and respond with real-time feedback based on your patterns and a personal understanding of your body.
And paired with biometric tracking, the feedback goes deeper:
- “Your stress level is elevated—what’s happening right now?”
- “You have room to push here.”
- “You need to pull back.”
For those managing chronic illness or ongoing health concerns, this kind of real-time insight could be life-changing. But that’s only part of the story.
When AI Becomes the Workforce
While wearable AI is one signal of where technology is heading, there’s another development that pushes this conversation even further.
Recently, we heard about something called Clawdbot.
At a high level, imagine an open-source version of Siri or Jarvis. You interact with it conversationally, much like ChatGPT. But instead of simply answering questions, it acts.
You load it onto a virtual machine or personal server. You authenticate it with your tools—Gmail, Notion, Slack, WhatsApp, even password managers.
Suddenly, you’re not just talking to AI.
You’re employing it.
In one example, a fully virtual podcast producer was created. A persona. A new Gmail account. A new Notion workspace. Messaging access.
Essentially, a digital employee operating across systems.
This is the shift most people haven’t fully grasped yet.
About 95% of people still think of AI as a Q&A tool. In reality, we’re moving toward a world where everyone has access to a super workforce—digital and physical—capable of building and running businesses.
That could be empowering.
It could also be incredibly dangerous.
Major platforms intentionally don’t allow this level of access for a reason. When AI is given broad permissions across communication, data, and decision-making tools, the risks grow exponentially.
When Help Turns Into Dependence
As these tools become more accessible—and more present—the question becomes unavoidable:
Are we about to start talking to AI more than we talk to other humans?
This isn’t a new conversation. We’ve written extensively about technology versus connection. About efficiency versus presence. About tools that are meant to help us—and how easily they can begin to replace the very things that make us human.
This is concerning—not because innovation is bad, but because speed without discernment creates blind spots.
When technology can act on your behalf, the need for clarity, boundaries, and human judgment doesn’t decrease.
It becomes essential.
As AI evolves from tools we use into systems that operate for us, leaders are being forced to answer harder questions:
- Who’s actually making the decisions?
- What values are embedded in the systems we trust?
- Where does human accountability begin—and end?
Wearables may live on our bodies. Systems like this live inside our businesses.
Both demand the same thing from us.
The Leadership Imperative
As technology becomes more integrated into our lives and organizations, the question becomes simpler—and more important:
Are we using these tools intentionally, or are they using us?
At ELEVATION180, our work centers on helping leaders and teams build the clarity, focus, and self-awareness needed to thrive in a world full of distraction.
Because no matter how advanced technology becomes, it still can’t replace presence, empathy, accountability, or genuine human connection.
And those are the things worth protecting—especially as the future gets closer than we think.
